The goal of the SOAR program is to assist persons who are experiencing homelessness or near homelessness and have a mental illness and or co-occurring substance use disorder. The SOAR advocate and the participant strive for the participant to become eligible for SSI or SSDI and the corresponding insurance.
SOAR can be utilized for:
- Gathering needed historical information: education, military, employment, medical records
- Collecting current medical and employment records
- Advocacy on behalf of the participant
- Some financial assistance may be available
Eligibility Criteria:
- Be in a homeless or near homeless situation
- Have a verifiable mental illness and or co/occurring substance use disorder
- Desire to make positive life changes
- Willingness to participate in regular meetings, phone conferences ect with SOAR advocate
